Boarders Magazine's new Associate Editor, Alex Brost, was recently featured as the cover story for Medina Living, a magazine from his hometown in Minnesota. The story chronicles the story of Brost starting a surfboard manufacturing company, iDol Surfboards, in the most unlikely of places: The suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“It was a real honor having them do the piece on me. I’m from a city that raised several professional athletes and CEOs of much bigger companies, but they chose to tell my story,” Brost commented on the piece.
The article summarizes how Brost and his friends accidentally happened on wake surfing, thinking they had invented the sport, and going on to start building specialty boards. For a few years, iDol Surfboards was just a hobby business based out of Brost’s garage. However, the incredible demand for iDol wake surf and SUP boards mixed with a lack of skilled labor in Minnesota sent Brost searching for a more sustainable business model. It wasn’t very long until Brost found himself in a China monitoring the production of his boards, making sure they are being made with quality materials and fair/safe labor practices.
Alex Brost is the newest member of the Boarders Magazine team, coming “on-board” as an associate editor. “I have written a few pieces for Boarders in the past, and I am ecstatic to get more involved with them going forward. I have always enjoyed writing, and now I get to write on a professional level. I’m stoked!”
