Adventure & Words - Brittany Parker
I’ve got social media to thank for many of my opportunities. Costa Rica is one of those things that would not have happened were it not for this digital age. In the Spring of 2015, I received a message on Facebook from a company called Paddle9 out of Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. They were looking to add to their team of guides and were wondering if I knew of anyone who wanted to come work for them during the busy season. I didn’t have any Winter plans and no obligations holding me to the states; so I decided to move to Costa Rica.
The 9 in the name Paddle9 comes from Manuel Antonio being 9 degrees above the equator. It was built by Brian Galloway and Matt Rosenthal, both from Philly and both with a passion for Costa Rica and a desire to break from their white collar 9-5’s. Paddle9 has grown tremendously since it’s birth four years ago and I attribute their success to the uniqueness of their tours.
Paddle9 began as a stand up paddle boarding tour company. As Brian and Matty became more acquainted with Costa Rica they felt the need to expand their offerings, so they explored all of it’s nooks and crannies. Tucked away in the riotous jungle they found some of the most pristine waterfalls; they found the REAL Costa Rica.
