CrossFit has blown up in epic proportion in the past five years. Today it seems that there is a CrossFit gym in all four corners of your town like a Starbucks. The focus is simple: stay in shape and train hard with others, create goals and thrive amongst your local CrossFit community. As far as training goes, local CrossFit affiliate owner Jessica Estrada, says that "you are not always going to be in the gym." In fact, if you want to be a complete, well rounded athlete, you need to be participating in various activities- indoors and out, "running, biking and paddleboarding." For Jessica, this means going for a run and then hopping on a board at Ladybird Lake in Austin, TX. Paddleboarding is her place to relax, seek active recovery, absorb some natural Vitamin D and work on her ankle stability.
As both an active paddler and CrossFit athlete, Jessica is excited about the future of the CrossFit Games, when paddleboarding might also be a part of the competition. In fact, this might be happening sooner than we think- just take a look at the Games the past couple of years. This year's Games featured a 2 mile knee or prone paddle. CrossFit Games Director, Dave Castro, approached legendary board shaper, Brian Szymanski, about his idea for the Games and a way to incorporate his boards. Check out the back story below:
