Great teaser from an epic adventure. We caught up with Brittany Parker from the 'Can I Surf That' movie that will be premiering at PaddleFest in Buena Vista, CO in May 2015. It has been a project two years in the making! This documentary follows the journey of four waterwomen with an insatiable appetite for whitewater and adventure! Brittany had a few things to share with us about the journey to making this film. Check them out below the video.
Boarders Mag: Over the last two years what have you learned from your river surfing search?
Brittany Parker: That the sport of river surfing is endless. Waves just seem to keep popping up all over the world and each one is unique with its own characteristics and nuances. You're not a good river surfer until you've surfed multiple waves. You may rip it on your home wave and as soon as you try to surf a new one it's like you're re-learning how to surf. A river surfer has to be adaptive, it's such a humbling sport. Also, if you need help don't be afraid to ask for it the Universe and river community will almost always provide!
BM: What was your favorite spot you stayed & surfed?
BP: This one's tough. The wave that had the most power and magic was Skookumchuck in B.C. off the Sunshine Coast. This one is unique because it's not a river wave, it's a standing ocean wave located in an inlet created by incoming tides. It's so remote and you have to take a ferry to get there. The speed and humungousness of this wave was exhilarating and terrifying. Not to mention all the marine life dolphins, seals, jellyfish, and purple starfish...that was definitely an unexpected surprise on our trip. It was a surreal experience.
BM: What does the future hold for the ladies of 'Can I Surf That'?
BP: A sequel...maybe Europe? Never gonna stop!
BM: Where will the film be shown in 2015?
BP: The premier will be shown at Colorado Kayak Supply's Paddlefest in Buena Vista, Colorado. We're still locking in dates but we'll be following the whitewater circuit. If you miss us at Paddle Fest you'll be sure to find us at the Payette River Games. We're very excited!
BM: Thank you very much Brittany for sharing with us! We are thrilled to see the full-length video in May!
This movie will give you an exclusive inside look at the River Standup Paddling community and meet some rowdy people who live for river surfing. This is just a taste of the adventures that lie ahead, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the premiere of 'CAN I SURF THAT' at PaddleFest in Buena Vista, CO in May 2015.
