Within the demographic of the golfing public in the US, only 5% of golfers are under the age of 30! Yet what about the demographic of the surfing culture? How can we attract surfers, boarders, etc towards the golfing community? For Laird Hamilton and Don Wildman the answer is simple: The Golfboard.
Among Laird’s many titles, he is also the GolfBoard Creative Co-Founder. He was in on the ground floor when Don Wildman (founder of Bally Total Fitness) was developing the idea to use an electric skateboard to get around the course. They quickly realized that the basic off-the-shelf skateboard wasn’t going to cut it, so they teamed up with Laird’s surfing friend Star Faraon, an EV expert who was instrumental in designing electric motorcycles. Star knew some other people to help out and then boom—the GolfBoard was born. So far the Golfboard has been in R&D for over 2.5 years and now finally ready for production.
A new and exciting way to play golf and a board technology that could replace golf carts for younger golfers. “The goal was to build something from the ground up that would be safe, easy to learn, fun to ride, and bring interest back to the game,” says Jim Black, Golfboard spokesman and avid golfer from the Midwest. “Maybe in the future GolfBoards will be kept in mind by golf course architects when they plan routing through the courses they design.”
From surf to golf, the lifestyle of boarders and a future that influences all to get on board. Check out Laird’s new video and stay tuned for Golfboards at a local course near you.
