April Gould is a member of the Arizona Wakeboarding and Surf Club (AZWSC), one of many new and growing clubs throughout the globe dedicated to surf life on local lakes and rivers. She is also a former professional waterskier and an American Ninja Warrior athlete. When she is not with her family, or training to become the next American Ninja, you might find her surfing the endless wave with AZWSC. "So why join a wake surf club?" we asked April.
1. A wake surf club gives you a sense of community. It's all about making friends and getting to know different people who all have similar interest in wake surfing. It's also a great place to talk about Service, Events, Competitions, Share Ideas, or hook up to surf.
2. A wake surf club is great for Networking. There are so many people with different levels of experience from professionals and amateurs, to beginners. You can find someone who is willing to teach and help improve on your skills and the club will encourage you along the way.
3. Join a wake surf club simply for the fun of it! What a better place to forget about all your troubles than out on the lake? Wake surfing is so enjoyable and being part of an organization where everyone feels the same way is an enriching experience. The happier we are the better in life we become.
According to the Arizona Wakeboarding and Surf Club, "The goal is to expand the local wake sports community, ride more, have a little more fun and create a network of great friends." This is exactly what clubs like AZWSC are about and why individuals like April are getting on board.
What's the main difference between wake surf and Ninja Warrior achievement?
"The adrenaline rush of wake surfing is very similar to that of American Ninja Warrior. When you finally get a trick you had been working on, there is an overwhelming sense of accomplishment that drives you to learn more. Wake surfing definitely helped me in my training for American Ninja warrior with balance, strength and coordination, but there is also a lot of upper body strength that is needed as well. With wake surfing you are able to practice until you get better whereas, with American Ninja Warrior you only get one chance and have to be prepared for anything, so it is hard to say which is more difficult."
