Lake Lanier recently had its biggest surf event yet! Southern Surfest swept in and took over the north end of the lake. With over 60 boards, 8 boats, 28 riders and 4 organizers this event was jam-packed! The inspiration for Southern Surfest came from the guys out in CA with Wake9. Scott Tittle attended the Polar Bear event this past year and knew he had to bring an event like it to the southeast US. Needless to say, his dream became a huge success. Southern Surfest had riders that were local as well as riders as far west as CA and north as NY. Every rider had a 15-minute set on each of the 8 boats spread out over May 3rd and May 4th. The riders completed a boat and board evaluation after riding, which will be complied into a massive review of the boats and boards involved in Southern Surfest.
Southern Surfest was a huge success for the wakesurfing community not only in the southeast, but also all over! It has already been planned for a bigger and better Southern Surfest 2015. If you haven’t attended an event like this before, you are missing out. This is a prime opportunity for wakesurfers from all over to get together and ride without the pressure of a competition. Dates are booked for May 1st-3rd, 2015 so be sure to mark your calendar and follow Southern Surfest on Facebook and our website at www.SouthernSurfest.com for more details.
