We caught up with Minnesota’s Todd Olson — an avid outdoorsman, entrepreneur and pioneer. In fact, his last spin at it was with a little innovation you may have heard about: Rollerblade skates. And similar to how other great inventors start, Todd had a problem he needed to solve. “I love the outdoors and have a lot of toys, gear and a big dog. My car and roof rack were packed full, and my dog was wedged in with two feet of real estate in the back,” Olson laughed.
What Olson thought would be used mostly for bikes and skis, has quickly turned into a wakeboard, kayak, canoe and stand up paddleboard (SUP) trailer. “I’ve had a great response across the country, but it’s really exciting to see some of the niches like the boarding and paddling communities reach out to us and tell us they’ve been looking for a trailer just like this,” Olson added.
The boarding and paddling community has been in need of a smaller trailer that can easily haul lightweight watercraft and all the gear that goes with it behind today’s gas-efficient cars. Todd went on to explain that the rack mounts are lower to the ground and much easier to pack boards and canoes — especially when there’s no one there to help you: “When you’re done for the day, you can lock it all up and call it good. It’s a storage locker on wheels.
